MUSIC DIRECTOR

Pasquale Valerio.

THE MAESTRO

Pasquale Valerio is an internationally renowned conductor, founder and Music Director of the Villages Philharmonic Orchestra.

"An orchestra is not built from instruments. It is built from listening — between musicians, between conductor and audience, between silence and sound."

- PASQUALE VALERIO

THE BIOGRAPHY

A life in music.

From Naples conservatory to founding a philharmonic in Florida.

Born in Naples into a family deeply rooted in cultural and religious traditions, Pasquale Valerio developed a strong passion for music at a very young age. He began studying piano at the age of ten, later turning to the trumpet at thirteen under the guidance of Maestro Filippo Veniero, a central figure in his musical education. He continued his trumpet studies at the Conservatory of Bari with Maestro Francesco Lentini, later refining his technique with Maestro Diego Benedusi. After completing his studies, he worked as an instrumentalist with major orchestras, including the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, while simultaneously pursuing studies in Composition and Score Reading with Maestro Filippo Veniero. His encounters with conductors J. Whitney and Gunther Schmith in the United States had a profound impact on his artistic path, allowing him to resume and consolidate his studies in orchestral conducting. Another fundamental figure in his artistic growth was the renowned conductor Anton Coppola, who became his mentor in 1999.

Conducting Career and Collaborations

In 2004, he founded the Villages Philharmonic Orchestra, of which he is still Music Director, and with which he regularly performs on tour and in concerts throughout Florida and in numerous countries around the world. He is also the founder of the Lake Sumter Chamber Orchestra and served as co-founder and conductor of the Florida Lakes Symphony from 2005 to 2006. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with prestigious European orchestras, including the "900" Philharmonic Orchestra of the Teatro Regio di Torino, the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, the Virtuosi of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, the Virtuosi of the Bacău Philharmonic, and the "A. Scarlatti" Symphony Orchestra of Naples. In 2006, he had the honour of assisting Sir Antonio Pappano, Music Director of the Royal Opera House and the London Symphony Orchestra — an experience that marked a decisive moment in his artistic development. From 2007 to 2009, he collaborated with the Viotti Music Festival in Vercelli, and since 2018, he has served as a guest conductor at the Northern California Music Festival.

Recognition and Current Activity

Pasquale Valerio is regularly invited to prestigious international festivals and competitions, including the International Piano Competition "F. Schubert" and the Viotti Music Festival. Among the orchestras with which he collaborates are the Nuova Orchestra Scarlatti, the "900" Orchestra of the Teatro Regio di Torino, the Ópera Symphony Orchestra of Arezzo, and the Florida Philharmonic. In 2023, he was appointed Visiting Professor of Orchestral Conducting Studies at the London Performing Academy of Music.
